Mehdi Chamma

Mehdi Chamma is a guitarist, guembri player, composer and singer-songwriter born in Morocco. His distinctive sound blends desert blues, jazz, soul, rock and North West African traditions, defined by a warm, soulful guitar tone, expressive vocals and the earthy tones of the African guembri.

He has performed internationally as a solo artist, trio musician and band member at festivals, cultural events and concert stages. Over the past decade, he has collaborated with musicians from diverse cultural and musical backgrounds, developing a versatile approach to performance, composition and songwriting.

His debut album, Layla wa Bahr (Night and Sea), brings together original compositions rooted in North African rhythms, with desert blues, expressive fusion guitar, and contemporary music arrangements. In May 2023, Guitar & Bass Magazine described the album as “A powerful, original and warm sound flows from the speakers.”

Chamma is currently performing new material from his upcoming album, scheduled for release in 2027, continuing to develop a distinctive musical voice that connects North African heritage with blues, jazz, and contemporary guitar-driven sounds.
